So what exactly is bbLeanless? Well it's essentially a trimmed down version of bbLean which is a vert minimalistic build of blackbox and when it comes to minimalism and performance there's certainly always room for further improvements. Alternatively another minimalistic shell outside of the realm of blackbox worth mentioning is geoshell it's rather minimalistic as well and has fairly familiar windows user interface feel to it. Litestep is yet another good option, but it can be a little tricky making everything on it work properly so don't be overly surprised if you run into some problems if you give it a try.

Minimalism isn't for everyone so if your looking for a shell with functionality and eye candy in mind Emerge Desktop or SharpE might be worth giving a try they to cater more to the eye candy and flexibility department Geoshell is also rather flexible as well, but not as flashy eye candy, but it is very easy to skin for.

In conclusion my recommendation for minimalism is bbLeanless and my recommendation for eye candy is sharpE. I did like litestep a lot, but in practice I found it problematic making the different themes for to work properly unfortunately, but the few that did were rather nice.FL Addicthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15571329661941125628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7044362390173698362.post-65768588872742947572008-08-14T02:54:00.001-07:002008-08-19T17:22:52.873-07:00bb4win
Blackbox for Windows
Blackbox are alternative replacement shells that allow you to interact with your operating system in much the same way as Windows Explorer. However, Blackbox dispenses with some, or many, of the graphical features which are a staple of the Windows model. For example, you won't find icons in Blackbox menus, nor will you be able to drag menu items to reposition them. Generally speaking, you will find a Blackbox environment appears spartan and minimalistic compared to a normal Windows interface.
Currently there are two original shells, three or more forks.

BB4Win

The original Blackbox for Windows shell is BB4Win, originally developed by azathoth. A few issues have been resolved and enhancements have been made to bblean 1.16 source code release. I strongly suggest getting one of the more full featured version first however and tweaking bbLeanless using some of the configuration files from another version to make it user friendly at least if you want quick menu shortcuts setup for example.

bbClean

bbClean was started by Zeytok - with its first release being 18 months after the start of bbLeanMod. As bbClean's first release included only a few of the bbLeanMod enhancements, it can be regarded as a direct fork of bbLean. It was originally known as bbLeanModMod, but was renamed to bbClean after a short while. It now rests in the hands of noccy and contains mostly enhancements.
